The Fixer. The Builder. The Technologist.
I've always been drawn to figuring out how things work, why they don't work, and how to make them work better.
I'm a lifelong technologist, problem solver, and self-described fixer. I enjoy taking on challenges that don't have obvious answers, digging into complicated systems, finding the root cause of a problem, and building practical solutions. Whether that means writing code, redesigning a process, integrating disparate systems, troubleshooting an infrastructure problem, or rethinking an entire technical approach, I'm happiest when I'm solving something.
My interests have taken me through programming, networking, systems administration, application development, enterprise software, consulting, and technical leadership. I've never been particularly interested in limiting myself to one discipline. If something needs to be learned, I'll learn it. If something needs to be built, I'll figure out how to build it.
Today, much of my professional focus is on Oracle NetSuite and enterprise technology. My work spans technical consulting, engineering leadership, solution architecture, development strategy, and solving complex customer and business problems. I enjoy working at the intersection of technology and business, where understanding the underlying systems is just as important as understanding what people are trying to accomplish.
I still enjoy getting into the code myself. JavaScript and SuiteScript remain particular favorites, and I have a soft spot for finding creative ways to extend platforms beyond their out-of-the-box capabilities. I'm equally interested in integrations, automation, security, application architecture, and making systems more maintainable and reliable.
I believe good technology should solve problems, simplify work, and make people's lives easier. Complexity for its own sake doesn't impress me. Neither does building something simply because it's the way it has always been done.
I'm comfortable working independently, leading technical teams, collaborating with customers, or jumping into an unfamiliar environment and figuring out what's going on. I appreciate people who think critically, take ownership, challenge assumptions, and care about doing things right.
Beyond Technology
Outside of work, I'm still very much a geek. I enjoy learning, experimenting, building things, and finding new challenges. My interests tend to follow a common theme: if something catches my attention, I want to understand it and get better at it.
These days, that includes strength training, archery, axe throwing, historical European martial arts, outdoor skills, hiking, and spending time on our ranch. I also enjoy motorcycles, vehicles, traveling, camping, and working on projects around the property.
My wife and I have been building our own little corner of the world at Dragon Acres Ranch, where life involves a little less screen time, a few more donkeys and chickens, and occasionally operating heavy equipment. It's a different kind of problem-solving, but I enjoy it just as much.
I enjoy Renaissance festivals, history, technology, and pretty much anything that gives me an opportunity to learn something new. And, of course, spending time with my wife.
A Lifelong Student
My curiosity started early. My mother helped me build my first computer around 1985, and I was experimenting with BASIC, Pascal, and C programming not long afterward. By the time I was a teenager, I had built my first Bulletin Board System (BBS), long before the modern web became what it is today.
After spending some time away from technology, I returned to it professionally, eventually starting my own PC repair business. That led to a return to college, where I discovered that application development was where my interests really belonged.
I earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Application Development from McLennan Community College in 2009, graduating with a 3.96 GPA, followed by a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2012.
Throughout my career, I've moved between development, infrastructure, IT management, professional services, consulting, and enterprise technology. I've built systems from scratch, led technical teams, taught application development, worked with startups, and helped organizations solve problems that crossed traditional technical boundaries.
In 2012, I also established the Hill College Information Technology Department – Computer Science Scholarship. I wanted to do something that would help another aspiring technologist get their start. I still like the idea that something I did might help introduce another geek to the world of technology.
I don't believe learning ever really stops. There is always another language to explore, another system to understand, another skill to develop, or another challenge worth taking on. That's probably what has kept technology interesting for me for more than four decades.
What Drives Me
I enjoy solving difficult problems, building useful things, learning new skills, and finding better ways to accomplish something.
I value competence, honesty, accountability, curiosity, and the freedom to think independently. I appreciate people who aren't afraid to question the status quo and who are willing to roll up their sleeves when something needs to get done.
I'm not particularly interested in titles for the sake of titles, complicated processes that serve no purpose, or technology that creates more problems than it solves. Give me an interesting challenge, the freedom to investigate it, and the opportunity to build something meaningful, and I'm probably going to enjoy myself.
I'm a fixer by nature, a builder by choice, and a geek at heart. I don't particularly enjoy being told something can't be done. I'd much rather figure out why it can't—and see what it takes to change that.
